The Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council
In 2008, the Aromatherapy Council relinquished its regulatory role in favour of the CNHC, as this is what the Department of Health decided was needed - a voluntary self-regulator for all complementary therapies. This made sense as most aromatherapists practice more than one type of therapy.
A similar type of collaborated regulation exisit within mainstream healthcare called the HealthCare Professionas Council (HCPC), although this is a statutory body. It regulates 14 professions, including physiotherapists, OTs, paramedics etc.
CNHC was set up with government support to protect the public by providing a UK voluntary register of complementary therapists. CNHC's register has been approved as an Accredited Register by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care.
Therapies registered: Alexander Technique teaching; Aromatherapy; Bowen Therapy; Craniosacral Therapy; Healing; Hypnotherapy; Massage Therapy; Microsystems Acupuncture; Naturopathy; Nutritional Therapy; Reflexology; Reiki; Shiatsu; Sports Therapy; Yoga Therapy.
Many NHS jobs and opportunities for working with integrated healthcare usually require CNHC registration.
