The Lead Body for the UK Aromatherapy Profession
Setting the UK standards for professional practise
Whenever you visit a professional aromatherapist in the UK you need to be assured that they are trained to the set industry standards and can treat you as an individual, from a holistic perspective. Properly trained aromatherapists will blend oils especially to suit your needs and they will do this in full knowledge of safety issues following a detailed consultation. Please note that the UK aromatherapy profession does not support the use of essential oils internally and aromatherapists trained to our national standards are not taught to advise on internal use. There is sufficient evidence to show that it is not safe.
Aromatherapists usually belong to a professional association where they gain insurance to practice. They have to carry on their training every year in order to keep up to date in the form of continuing professional standards. They can also elect to join the voluntary regulatory body for complementary therapies in the UK, the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).
